We are getting into my favorite time of year for family photos. With the long summer days, I am loving the glowy, golden light around sunset. In fact, I always encourage families to schedule in the early mornings or late evenings to capture that perfect light. It's so flattering and gives the whole image a soft glow.
This family is near and dear to my heart as I photographed their wedding and all 3 of their babies. I am always blown away at how well-behaved the boys are. I hadn't seen 1 year old Brecklyn since her newborn session and she is an absolute firecracker! Ha! I spent more time chasing her than anyone else at their photo shoot. She had a few moody moments but nothing a little snack and distraction couldn't fix.
I always strive to get a mix of posed and candid shots at a family session. When I do pose a family, I'll typically put people where I want them at the beginning, but then encourage them to squeeze together or do something silly to get genuine expressions at the same time. We played a lot of games this night and I let the kids tell me their ideas. This made it so fun and I loved getting to know this family a little better.
