This family is very dear to me, as I've now gotten to photograph all 3 of their girls as newborns, plus many other shoots through the years. For baby Enleigh's newborn photos, mom requested that we do a lifestyle session in their home. She wanted to be able to capture them being at home together in these early days as a family of 5.
Big sisters Ellie and Emmy were incredibly sweet and patient with their new baby sister. They were great helpers, too, and knew just what to do to help keep their sister calm and happy.
The best part about doing an in-home newborn session is not having to pack up your things and leave the house with a new baby. I always tell parents that you don't have to deep clean your entire house. Before the session, I send a list of tips to prepare and that focuses mainly on picking up clutter in the baby's room, the parents' bedroom, and the living room. Those are typically the areas that I use for lifestyle photos.
With studio sessions, I shoot mostly posed newborn photos with a few candid shots with the parents. At an in-home lifestyle session, the focus is less on the baby but on the family as a whole. I do try to include a few posed photos with simple props, which I provide. I also love to photograph the baby's room and the little details that make it unique.
